On November 22nd, a call came in for an apartment fire at 410 Lippincott Blvd in Flint, MI that had one department using all of its on duty firefighters. There were a total of 14 of them. According to MLive, three firefighters were hurt and mutual aid had to be called in as their two ladder trucks were in the shop.
According to Flint Fire Chief Ray Barton, “We didn’t have enough people. Realistically, we needed double what we had.” He stated that the SAFER grant program will allow him to hire 33 additional firefighters within the next 6 months.
“Fires are unpredictable,” he said. “We still don’t understand why there was a flash. It changed so quickly. (Firefighters) did everything they were supposed to.”
